CEREMONY

Religious rite

There are almost a thousand churches in Rome, the number one city in the number of churches.

An artistic and cultural heritage that documents over fifteen centuries of history. The churches of Rome have to offer significant testimonies of every age, every stage of culture, every century of history, every architectural style, and every artistic school.

Cradle of Christianity, Rome was the first places of worship to rise. It is with the emperor Constantine that the history of the churches of the city Caput Mundi begins, the first to give Christians places of worship. In ancient times, they were simple private homes or places of charity or so-called domus ecclesiae, “houses of the assembly.” This is the nucleus of the early Christian and medieval churches.

In the most beautiful and famous streets of the city, in the most hidden alleys, medieval, gothic, Renaissance, baroque, eternal vestiges of the glorious past of Rome are preserved.

The history of the churches, the uniqueness of all the art works that boast the signature of artists such as Raffaello, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Bernini, Canova and the exclusive location leave you spoiled for choice for the ideal location to celebrate your wedding with a religious rite.

At the disposal of future spouses, a careful selection of the most fascinating churches in Rome and Lazio, different in size, style and landscape to meet the different demands and tastes, able to satisfy the needs of a grand ceremony or a more intimate celebration. A trip through the centre of Rome, which leads to the medieval Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of the oldest in the city, to the Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano, located in the Forum of Vespasian, then to reach the nearby villages of Santa Maria in Galeria And Farnese Island, which boast ancient churches for a perfect country wedding.

Civil rite

Rome is the Eternal City where to say Yes for life.

Panoramic views, deconsecrated churches, medieval castles, Roman villas, monumental spaces, historic buildings and public parks with incalculable historical value are just a few of the possible locations to say that fateful Yes in a civil ceremony.

Civil marriage is the union between two people of opposite sex singularly for legal benefits. Civil marriage is therefore a public act that occurs in the presence of a public official and two witnesses. Foreign nationals intending to marry in Italy must follow a very precise bureaucratic iter. The first step is to ask the Consulate or the Embassy of your country in Italy for the “nulla osta” (permission/sworn statement), that is, a statement that shows that, according to the laws of your state, there are no impediments to your marriage. After having obtained authorisation, you must go to the Legalization Office of the Prefecture to authenticate it with the Ambassador’s or Consul’s signature.

The civil ceremony is celebrated by the registrar who has the obligation to wear the tricolor band in the presence of two witnesses and an interpreter.

The celebration takes place in a public room in the Municipal House where a publication request has been made. In rare exceptions, in addition to the classical communal hall, other places suitable for celebration of civil ceremonies such as villas, castles and historic buildings are available to the couple, which the future spouses have the opportunity to set up according to their own tastes.

The civil ceremony lasts for about 20 minutes, so it is a shorter celebration than the religious ceremony, but it can be personalised with family and friends reading an extract and delighting the guests with live music. How does a civil ceremony take place?First of all, the Civil Registrar reads articles of the Civil Code. The classical question of rite follows (“Do you want to … take as legitimate groom / bride …”). It continues with the reading of three Constitutional articles, then  the traditional exchange of rings. The marriage is formalised with the signing of the record by the spouses and witnesses. The officiant closes the ceremony with a brief auspicious speech.Located in the heart of the city or just a few steps from Rome, in small medieval villages who bore witness the glorious Roman Empire, the charming places available to the future spouses for a civil wedding ceremony will be the perfect setting for a special day. The Campidoglio for a lavish and regal wedding in the heart of the city, where the predominant colour is the one of love, red. The former chapel of Villa Lais and the deconsecrated church of Santa Maria in Tempulo give rise to a refined, intimate wedding that does not denounce the sacredness of the place. A short walk from Rome to the ancient city of Tivoli or the medieval borgo of Fara in Sabina Romano are the destination for the more demanding couples in search of tranquility and places rich in history.

Symbolic rite

Symbolic ceremony fascinates more and more couples because it provides more choice for those about to get married, but also for all those who want to celebrate an equally important moment in their life, such as an anniversary, a recurrence or a celebration of any kind.

Why choose a symbolic celebration? If what really matters to you is to be together and to swear eternal love, then the symbolic marriage is the best solution. Without a doubt, this format, entirely built according to your own desires, free from formulas and rituals, is best suited to exalt and share the most precious moments of your life, the moments that you want to celebrate by highlighting the key components in the most passionate and inspired way possible.

When imagining this day, the first concern arises from the need to choose the perfect location; and what city, if not Rome, can make this research a truly exciting and poetic moment? Full of pathos, elegant, prestigious, authoritative, immortal, valued for its artistic importance and cultural heritage.
The possibility of considering unusual and non-conventional locations turns into an opportunity to get to know the most secret and well-guarded corners of the Eternal City: from the Temple of Diana inside Villa Borghese to the Cloister of Castello della Castelluccia just outside the city, from the hunting lodge at Palazzo Brancaccio in the city centre to the deconsecrated chapel inside an old castrum or simply a lush garden overlooking Lake Martignano.

The city of Rome is undoubtedly the ideal place to make a unique frame for each event in a perfect blend of charm and romance.

The Eternal City thus reveals all those places that would normally be excluded because not suitable to host a civil or religious ceremony, but that pose no impediments for the celebration of a symbolic rite, disjointed from legal and religious restrictions. Many believe in the strong spiritual value of the symbolic ceremony and because of this they can choose to replicate one of the classical rites or to create a completely original celebration, becoming actors and directors of their union, remembering special moments, places, situations, and sealing it all with emotionally charged and meaningful words, that imprint eternity upon this moment. The exceptional nature of the promises and the uniqueness of the rite, prepared according to the taste and wishes of the couple, will increase the exclusive value of the celebration.
A professional officiator will be able to celebrate the rite in an exciting and evocative way, sealing the promises of eternal love that the couple is about to exchange.
For the rite celebration, it could also be possible to choose a figure of importance for the couple’s life path, such as a friend or a family member.
These are just some of the suggestions for creating a personalised, unique and inimitable event. The symbolic celebration is, without a doubt, the ideal opportunity to fulfil your dreams.
